Conversation with Zen Masters
Discussing how the ethics, beliefs and ancient wisdom of Buddhism can shape modern biotech sparked many ideas. We sat down with Zen Masters from Sonoma Mountain Zen Center to have a conversation with the founders of Wired magazine and a professor of theology. Jakusho Kwong-roshi and his son Nyoze(如是) Demian Kwong joined Jane Metcalfe and Louis Rossetto with Gaymon Bennett, a Professor of Religion, Science, and Technology at Arizona State University. Together they discussed the fascinating ways that technology and beliefs converge.
Speaking about the history of tech and the “cult” in culture, Gaymon asked: How does one innovate while also working on the shadow?
The shadow doesn’t have to be part of the dark side. It can be part of the light. They go together. Without the shadow, you can’t have the light.
Jakusho Kwong-roshi
It was an enlightening experience for all that will shape the conversation of the genomic revolution we are documenting in our film, The Human Game. Watch a behind-the-scenes moment while we filmed this exchange of insight, wisdom and ideas from respected thought leaders.
